Fraud Prevention

Mukuru has zero tolerance to fraud and we take a firm and unwavering stance against any fraudulent activity.

Always:
  • Know who you are dealing with and do your research before sending money
  • Under no circumstances should you send money to unknown individuals or people whose identity is unclear to you.
  • Remember that if it is rushed and it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
  • Remember that Mukuru’s service is in real time, once you pay, it is gone.
  • Stay informed and vigilant about emerging fraud trends.
  • Use a cancel button before inserting your card in the ATM.

Never:
  • Fall for any freebies eg sim cards, airtime, data, loyalty points, vouchers which are activated by handing over your phone to “promo agents”
  • Fall for an offer that catches you off guard, or the prize is linked to a competition you never entered.
  • Join any social media group where you are asked to send money upfront to receive goods, services or more money.
  • Automatically click links or attachments you receive via email, text or social media.
  • Use your account to assist someone else to send funds, advise them to open their own account.
  • Share devices or confidential information with anyone for example: full name, addresses, contact details, identity numbers, card numbers, card expiration dates etc.

These are some of the ways fraudsters may use to trick you into losing money or your identity for fraud reasons.
